The Moon & Stars, They Smile Upon Me

The night of December 1st was a spectacular night in Perth, as witnessed by these pictures I took from my patio.

Photo shot with a Lumix DMC-FZ50 at 420mm zoom, ISO 200, F3.7, 1/1.6 at 20:41, 1 Dec '08.

Here's another shot, showing some of the neighbour's roof.

Actually, the two bright spots aren't starts, they're the planets Jupiter and Venus.

The celestial trio apparently won't be seen like this again for another 44 years, accordingly to the Christian Science Monitor. So, if you missed it, well, here's to a long life.

This astronomical phenomenon appears slightly differently in the US, depicting a frowning face, see Earth Sky Tonight. But in Australia, what we see is a smiling face. Are we the lucky country or what? It's nice to know the heavens are smiling upon us.
